What's Happening at Sugarloaf UMC 10/18/10

Join us for our current sermon series...

What if you knew that by simply crossing the room and saying hello to someone, you could change that person's life forever? Just a few steps to man an eternal difference. It has nothing to do with methods and everything to do with taking a genuine interest in another human being. All you need is a heart that's in tune with the Holy Spirit and a willingness to venture out of your 'Circle of Comfort' and into another person's life.

This coming Sunday, Stuart finishes the series with “Grander Vision Living”
with Scripture references from Luke 5:27-32. We recall Matthew’s desire to share
Christ with his friends. He invites people to his home to meet Jesus.
What if each of us were to consider having a similar event in our home or neighborhood?

Stuart's "Just Checking In"
In an effort to communicate to the congregation, Stuart writes a weekly "Just Checking In" blog that will be posted here and on the front page of our website. Click here to see this weeks installment.

Student Life Information:
From Aaron Young, Director of Student Life Ministry

We’re off to a great start with our Pumpkin Patch fundraiser!! Thanks for all of your support. Be sure to purchase your pumpkins early while the picking is good and so that we can get another shipment so we have more pumpkins to sell. We’re giving a bonus 20,000 points for our SHIFT Fall Competition to each middle school student who buys their pumpkins by this Wednesday night (to get the bonus points they have to turn in the flier we passed out last week with their information at the Patch). The Pumpkin Patch is open weekdays from 3:00-9:00pm, Saturdays 9:00am-9:00pm, and Sundays 10:00am-8:00pm. Don’t forget to show up for the shifts you signed up for at least 5 minutes early to help with the transitions between workers. Instructions for working the Patch are located at the table by the house.

Raising Kids to Do Hard Things can best be understood as a Christian household strategy seminar.
It is a child training seminar, but not in the way you might think. The household as a whole has more influence on each child’s character and competence than the parents by themselves. Siblings can make or break the process. Teamwork can make up for whatever is lack in parental skill. In other words, by “managing your household well” you can “keep your children under control with all dignity.” It is the household as a whole that serves as the training ground and incubator of future greatness.

Raising Kids to Do Hard Things teaches Christian families why to do hard things and how to do hard things together as a family. In the process it addresses every major area of life— personal, family, education, business, ministry hospitality and civic duty. In this Friday evening and Saturday morning and afternoon seminar you will learn how to make your home and family “a household of strength.”

Join SUMC's Student Life as they host this awesome Seminar
Friday, October 29th from 7:00-9:00pm and
Saturday, October 30th from 9:00am-5:00pm
